Fish in Water: A Memoir of Vargas Llosa

In 1990, after losing the Peruvian presidential election, Mario Vargas Llosa "exiled himself" to Europe, during which time he wrote a "campaign memoir", "Fish in Water".
The book consists of twenty chapters. The odd-numbered chapters recall how the author embarked on the road of literature, interspersed with his childhood and adolescence, career as a journalist, schooling, literary creation, and marriage with Aunt Julia; the even-numbered chapters describe the author's political adventure from 1987 to 1990: from opposing bank nationalization, to organizing the Democratic Front, to participating in the presidential election, to his failed escape and return to literature.
This is a unique memoir. Readers can not only learn about Vargas Llosa's life and creative motivation, but also get a glimpse into Peru's history and reality, party struggles, and election insider information.
