About Book
This issue of "Dan Du" continues to focus on contemporary young creators. In collaboration with the Yamaichi International Women's Film Festival, it publishes the film scripts and creative talks of 5 contemporary young female directors. This is the first time that Dan Du has used the form of a film script to present the changing contemporary life.
Wang Lina's "The First Farewell" tells the story of a childhood full of farewells in her hometown of Taklamakan; Yang Mingming's "History of Tenderness" shows a painful mother-daughter relationship in a Beijing hutong; Teng Congcong's "Send Me to the Clouds" depicts a female reporter with cancer struggling between survival and ideals; Han Shuai's "Nineteen Ninety-Nine" recalls the process of a 13-year-old girl's first encounter with sex and death; Huang Qilin's "Golden City" portrays a woman who is caught in a real or fake marriage and has to make her own choice.
This edition of "Single Reading" also includes video works by artist Chen Zhe, novels by Lu Yinyin and Kenyan writer Yvonne Adesianbo Ovio, as well as essays by Moyin and comments by Zhang Chang. They use different styles and perspectives to approach the world of women and find many bright moments in the dark night.
Life is tough, and the tenderness and resolve of these creators are even more precious now. As director Yang Mingming wrote, "We should cultivate our sensitivity to pain, not actually live a life riddled with inner demons."
