◆What brings together 10 million people in Istanbul are livelihoods, interests and bills, but there is only one thing that supports the people in this vast crowd, and that is love.
◆A noisy, corrupt and ever-changing urban epic, the life legend of an innocent, decent and humble street vendor.
"Strange Things in My Head" is a story about the life, adventures, fantasies of Mevlut, a boza vendor, and his friends. It is also a picture of life in Istanbul from 1969 to 2012, depicted from different perspectives.
When Mevlut was a teenager living in a poor mountain village in central Anatolia, he kept imagining what his future life would be like.
At the age of twelve, he journeyed to Istanbul, the "center of the world," to make a living. He was immediately captivated by the sight of the old city disappearing and the new under construction. He inherited his father's business, selling boza on the streets of Turkey. Like those who lived in the desolate areas outside the bustling city, he longed to get rich. But luck seemed to never favor him. He watched his relatives become wealthy and settle down in Istanbul; while he spent three years writing love letters to a girl he had only met at a wedding, he ended up eloping with her sister. In his middle age, Mevlut worked a variety of jobs on the streets of Istanbul: yogurt vendor, chickpea and chicken rice vendor, parking lot attendant...
He cherished his family and wife, but his job failures and financial hardship continued to weigh on him. Regardless, he continued to wander the streets of Istanbul night after night, selling boza, yearning for his true love, and pondering the strange thoughts that popped into his mind, making him feel different. He, a boza vendor with no money and no status, belonged to this metropolis, yet constantly searched for another life in his mind.
