Aristotle (384-322 BC) was a great ancient Greek philosopher, scientist, and educator, and the epitome of Greek philosophy. Metaphysics is one of his representative works. Through a critical examination of previous philosophy, Aristotle explored the highest knowledge that can be achieved through the highest and most universal principles, hence the term "first philosophy." Metaphysics fundamentally laid the foundation for the basic concepts and issues of Western philosophical thought, and has therefore become a classic text in the Western philosophical tradition.
