About Book

♣️ “Whenever I think of the regrets in my life, the plum blossoms fall.”
♣️ Eleven years after Zhang Zao's death, all his poems and essays have been collected for the first time. ♣️ A new collection of Zhang Zao's letters, lost works, and other precious texts are included. ♣️ A "Chronological Biography of Zhang Zao" is included as an important material for Zhang Zao research.
All the poems and essays of the poet Zhang Zao discovered so far are divided into five volumes: "Poetry Volume", "Poetic Theory Volume 1: The Pursuit of Modernity", "Poetic Theory Volume 2: Lectures and Essays", "Letters and Interviews Volume", and "Translations Volume".
Poetry Volume: All the poems of Zhang Zao discovered so far are collected, including 13 newly discovered poems such as "Latin Black Gate" and "Fragments of Beijing City" that were not included in the first edition of "Poetry of Zhang Zao";
"Poetics Volume 1: The Pursuit of Modernity": Zhang Zao's doctoral dissertation during his stay in Germany. Starting from the writing experience of a contemporary poet, he constructed a personal logic of the history of modern poetry and sorted out the history of the development of modern Chinese poetry since 1919.
Poetry Volume 2: Lecture Notes and Essays: This volume contains Zhang Zao's lecture notes and articles. The lecture notes are a wonderful modern poetry course. Among them are Zhang Zao's tens of thousands of words of comparative literature lecture notes on Bian Zhilin and Wen Yiduo, as well as several short essays such as "Snowflakes."
"Letter and Interview Volume": This is the first publication of Zhang Zao's correspondence, collecting over 60 pieces of correspondence he wrote to friends, colleagues, and students. The recipients each provide annotations explaining the background and reasons behind the correspondence.
"Translation Volume": A collection of Zhang Zao's translated poems and essays, with a "Brief Chronological Biography of Zhang Zao" compiled by editor Yan Lianjun at the end of the volume.
