About Book
Figure. Come funzionano le immagini dal Rinascimento a Instagram
Images are everywhere.Yet, why do some images receive thousands of likes and even become icons of visual culture, while others do not? How do images capture, astonish, and hypnotize us?
Riccardo Falcinelli employs a paradigm completely different from previous art books, juxtaposing Renaissance paintings with Kubrick's films and contrasting abstract art with contemporary advertising to explain how images are designed and created.
Reading this book is like entering the studio of a top painter, director, or photographer, and gaining a deep understanding of the secrets behind image creation.

Editor's Recommendation:
A must-have guide for image and video creators: Focus, composition, lighting, size, scale, hue... what determines the success or failure of an image? Numerous examples of classic image comparisons reveal the secrets of image creation.
★Surveying the millennia of image history, we explore the dynamics and constants of creation. From cave paintings, oil paintings, and drawings to photographs, films, advertising, and selfies, what shapes today's popular images and our visual aesthetic? When you take a photo with your phone, your psychology is no different from that of someone in the 15th century.
★Enter a master class that is impossible to exist in reality. Van Gogh, Cézanne, Yasujiro Ozu, Spielberg... Reading this book is like entering the studios of top artists from ancient times to the present, and learning the masters' creative techniques through the analysis of classic works.
★500 representative images across time and media, embarking on a wonderful artistic journey. From Titian's paintings to Dolce & Gabbana advertisements, from "The Last Supper" to Kubrick's "The Shining", the author has carefully selected 500 images from the history of images spanning thousands of years, guiding readers to travel through the history of images and enjoy the ultimate visual feast.

Reader comments:
Great is the only word that comes to mind. I've discovered a connection between the concepts I've been researching for years and the contemporary use of imagery. The parallels are both specific and incredibly interesting, allowing us to more critically interpret the images we constantly see on social networks. Falcinelli is one of the best contemporary Italian writers, writing with clarity, without obscurity, using concrete examples, and even a touch of irony.
A book that inspires imagination and creativity, showing in our ever-changing world the many facets of an image, from a work of art to an Instagram selfie. This is a masterpiece about the history of images and their multiple meanings.
If you're interested in art, photography, design, or are just curious, this book is for you. It's incredibly informative, and the author uses examples throughout the book so even beginners can understand the concepts. I think this book is a must-read.
—Amazon Reader Review: A concise history of the gaze, drawing on all forms of visual expression: murals, paintings, drawings, photographs, cartoons, Instagrams, newspaper clippings. Riccardo Falcinelli knows how to use precise language, insert amusing historical anecdotes, and round out his writing with technical concepts. He is the finest writer of our time.
