Homosexuality (male same-sex love) has a long history, with famous stories throughout history such as Duke Ling of Wei and Mi Zixia sharing a peach, King Anxi of Wei and Lord Longyang's passion, and Emperor Ai of Han and Dong Xian's "cut sleeve" affair. *Pin Hua Bao Jian* (Precious Mirror of Adorned Flowers), also known as *Yi Qing Yi Shi* (Leisurely Tales of Love) or *Qun Hua Bao Jian* (Preunious Mirror of All Flowers), is a long vernacular novel from the late Qing Dynasty. Due to the fact that the depiction of love and desire between men was taboo in the conservative social climate of the time, it is listed alongside *Gu Wang Yan* (Tales of the Idler), *Chan Zhen Yi Shi* (Untold History of Zen and Truth), and *Jin Wu Meng* (Dream of a Golden House) as one of China's four classic banned novels. Lu Xun later criticized this book as the initiator of the "brothel novel" genre in the late Qing Dynasty.
