Author's Note
It's the fiftieth anniversary of the publication of Taipei People. Fifty years have flown by like the back of my hand, and half a century has flown by in a flash. Looking back at my old work after such a long time, I can't help but be struck by how deeply melancholy and vicissitudes of life this book carries. I wonder where it all came from. Thinking back, I'm afraid I have to start with my childhood and youth.
