About Book
About Book
◆ This blockbuster new work by the famous historical anthropologist Wang Mingke is the epistemological basis for works such as "The Edge of China", "The Qiang Between Han and Tibetans", "Heroic Ancestors and Brotherly Nations", and "The Choice of Nomads".
A wake-up call: Everything we see, hear, read, think, and learn is a representation of something real. Misinterpreting these representations can lead to bias and erroneous judgment. In other words, people (and organizations) are inherently biased, and there's no reason to be overconfident. To find effective solutions to real-world problems, we must recognize and respect realities.
◆ A highly practical analytical method: through step-by-step and inspiring guidance, it helps readers understand the appearance and essence of history and reality.
"Reflective Historiography and Historiographical Reflection" is a new work by renowned historical anthropologist Wang Mingke. It builds on the epistemological foundations of works such as "The Edge of China," "The Qiang Between Han and Tibetan," "Heroic Ancestors and Brotherly Nations," and "The Nomad's Choice." Drawing on concepts such as human ecology, reality/appearance, identity/memory, and text/context, the author proposes an analytical approach that uses appearances (texts, images, films, social events, and so on) to understand the essence of social reality. This is a form of historical research that integrates multiple social sciences, which the author calls "reflective historiography." It also reflects the author's own reflection on historiography as a historian. The author hopes that readers and researchers will develop the piercing eyes of Sun Wukong, able to see through the real world and its historical processes obscured by paradigmatic knowledge, gaining a true understanding of the external world, as well as reflection and response.
