Cold Enough for Snow

On a rainy October day, a mother and daughter, separated by their respective countries, met in Tokyo. They strolled along the river, sheltering from a typhoon, shared meals in cafes and restaurants, and visited galleries to admire the city's most radical modern art. Meanwhile, they discussed the weather, astrological signs, clothing and objects, as well as family, distance, and memory.
The mother grew up in Hong Kong and immigrated before her two daughters were born. They were polite but not close. A mixture of disappointment and hope hung over their interactions, a knot of longing and despair. The trip might not have been as successful as the daughters had hoped, though almost everything went according to plan, with no unfortunate incidents.
Cold Enough to Snow depicts the forbearing, reserved, and alienated mother-daughter relationship with the most delicate brushstrokes. It also questions whether we have a common language, what dimensions can accommodate love, and whether we are qualified to truly understand the inner world of others.
