During a visit to his mother, Simeon Nevzorov, a minor accountant, chanced upon a prophecy from a Gypsy sorcerer: "When the world crumbles in fire and blood, when war returns home, and when brothers kill each other, you will experience extraordinary adventures, and you will become rich!" From that moment on, he waited... Four years later, with the outbreak of the 1917 Russian Revolution, Russia and its neighbors were engulfed in war and bloodshed, and Nevzorov's adventures began – thief, murderer, casino partner, landowner, smuggler, member of an anti-espionage organization, assassin, pimp... He became rich overnight, transforming into a count, but as his wealth accumulated, his conscience and dignity were severely tested.

Adapted from the famous novel "Nevzorov or The Adventures of Ibycus" by A. Tolstoy, a master of Soviet realism, this is a dark fable about war, human nature, morality, and dignity. It is a representative work by Pascal Rabaté, a renowned contemporary European cartoonist, and won the Angoulême International Comics Festival award for two consecutive years. The author's expressionistic ink wash paintings, reminiscent of Murnau's style, cast a dark, terrifying, and hopeless atmosphere over the entire book, making it impossible for readers to disengage even for a second. There is no direct depiction of war anywhere in the book, yet the cruelty of war is ever-present, allowing readers to truly feel the immense suffering it brings to ordinary people and its crushing and devastating impact on human goodness.
