书籍简介
This book is one of the six volumes in the "Designer's Collaborative Series: K Classics." "A Country Doctor" (Ein Landarzt) is a collection of short stories by Kafka, published in the spring of 1920 by Kurt Wolff Verlag in Germany. It includes fourteen of Kafka's stories, among them famous pieces like "Before the Law" and "A Report to an Academy." The writing is characterized by bizarre imagination and a distinct ironic language style.
The book also includes the short story "In the Penal Colony," which was first published in October 1919. In the penal colony, there is a horrifying execution machine that was once used to execute prisoners, an act opposed by the new commandant. The officer in charge of executions desperately tries to defend the machine's value but fails, ultimately committing suicide with it.
Editor's Recommendation:
★ The "K Classics" series covers all of Kafka's novellas and short stories published during his lifetime. It also includes 6 posthumously unpublished works by Kafka, Kafka's will, and a Kafka chronology.
★ 8 works are exclusive to Tong Yali's translation, with 3 of these short, posthumous works appearing for the first time in simplified Chinese.
★ World-renowned book designer Peter Mendelsund designed the cover, creating an "artwork within a book." His designs have been described by The Wall Street Journal as "the most recognizable and iconic designs in contemporary fiction covers." "K Classics" breaks away from the heavy and plain style of previous Kafka books, offering a avant-garde feel; abstract graphics and bright colors inject new vitality into Kafka's works.
★ Direct translation from German, single translator. Compared to the widely available compiled editions on the market, the "K Classics" series has a more consistent linguistic style; translated directly from German, it more purely restores the essence of Kafka's works.
