Album: The Sea in a Bottle

"The Sea in a Bottle" is an hour-long sound voyage and a romantic story, featuring a long voyage, a cruise ship, a seagull that can't fly, a stinking sea monster, a tango on the waves, a mysterious girl and a mysterious cry...

It's also my first small book, a 20,000-word sailing diary—derived from a real cruise I took in 2016, which took me 46 days adrift in the South Pacific, visiting Saipan, the Solomon Islands, Fiji, Tonga, Samoa, Tahiti, New Caledonia, Papua New Guinea... I began writing on the first day aboard and finished my last word before disembarking, leaving behind my experiences and thoughts at sea. Traveling has changed my life, and as life has changed, so too has the way I tell stories. I used to tell stories through songs, but now songs have become the cells of my stories. Three minutes has become an hour, and a senseless thought has become a trail of footprints.

I cherish the experience of that voyage, and every thought in my journal. The further I get from that memory, the more incredible it seems. I'm grateful to Long Hua and Lao Bai for always giving me such wonderful surprises. This time, they've made this little book not only weather the storms, but also as crystal clear as a jellyfish. Come aboard, my friends; the trip was worth it.
