About Book

三杯

This is a book based on a true story about a five-year-old boy who receives a special gift on his birthday: three old, worn-out coffee cups. At first, the boy is disappointed and confused by the gift. Then, his parents present the second part of the gift—the boy's very first allowance, which he can spend as he wishes. Looking at the money and the three old coffee cups, the boy becomes even more bewildered. With his parents' guidance and help, the boy divides his allowance into the three cups according to his own wishes: one cup for saving, one for spending on things he needs, and the third cup for helping others. As time passes and the money slowly accumulates, his parents guide him on how to wisely use the money in each of the three cups. The money in the "saving cup" goes into a bank or is invested, becoming "safe" and "growing in value." The money in the "spending cup" is used to buy things he likes and needs. The money in the "charity cup" is used to help those in need. As the boy grows up, the money in the three cups increases, and so does his capacity to do more. Throughout this process, the boy gains a sense of accomplishment, responsibility, and the honor of giving, all of which have a lifelong impact on him. When the boy grows up and has his own family, on his son's fifth birthday, he passes on these three cups as a gift to his son. A deep love and an excellent financial literacy education are thus passed down through generations. It's a small story that leaves readers feeling warm and touched.
