"A Garden of Vegetables Turns into Fairies" cleverly incorporates the characteristics of the vegetables, which is a humor full of wisdom. The green stalks and leaves of the scallions grow straight, just like a silver spear; the leaves of the chives are long and flat, like a double-edged sword. The split cloves of mature garlic, the fiery red chili peppers, and the swollen purple eggplant all become the result of battle, creating an unexpected yet convincing absurdity for the reader. When writing about lotus roots, instead of saying they naturally grow in wet mud, they become defeated generals who couldn't escape in time, foolishly and frantically burrowing into a muddy pit – how could children not burst into laughter?
Good nursery rhymes need good illustrations to express them; adding too much makes it too noisy, while subtracting too much makes it bland. When illustrating works like nursery rhymes, one must enter into the synchronized rhythm, shedding the flashy and false habits, and truly immersing oneself in the soil to achieve a perfect match. I opened the book and saw the vivid and joyful expressions of the greens and radishes, and I already began to secretly rejoice. The artist adheres to the unique personalities of the vegetables, while also imbuing them with full emotions and childlike mischief, exaggerated but not grotesque or bizarre, allowing this group of mischievous children to seriously array themselves and fight to their heart's content.
