About Book

★Analyze the first case of serial fraud and parricide by a female in Taiwan's history from a female perspective.
★A personal interview with Lin Yu-ru, the only surviving female death row inmate, in prison. Combining her autobiography with interviews with relevant people, this book reveals aspects beyond the "Amazing Daughter-in-law."
★In the story that resembles "Copper Emperor: Cold Blooded Confessions", in addition to murder, we also get a glimpse of gamblers under the Mark Six lottery craze.

The first Taiwanese female serial killer's crime story, written over three years and involving multiple sources, was written by Hu Mu, a winner of the Excellence in Journalism Award. He interviewed death row inmate Lin Yuru several times and obtained her own autobiography, attempting to explore the causes of the tragedy, the sentencing process, and the truth behind it.

"I wish a gunshot could save me from this misery, but why am I the shocking daughter-in-law?"

In 2009, Lin Yuru, then only 27 years old, was charged with murdering her mother, mother-in-law, and husband. After a life-or-death debate in the Supreme Court, she was sentenced to death.

To date, only four women have been sentenced to death for murder in Taiwan. She is the first such case in over 20 years and the only woman yet to be executed. At the time, the media extensively reported on her crimes and motives, dubbing her the "Black Widow" and the "Shocking Daughter-in-Law." However, various media outlets and the verdict presented conflicting versions of the story.

Murder for pleasure, murder for money... The reasons women are accused of murder are actually no different from those men. However, men who kill their wives are not the target of curiosity, nor are they hailed as "amazing husbands." And can the trajectory of human behavior be attributed to a single cause and effect?

This book chronicles veteran journalist Hu Muqing's interviews with individuals involved in the Lin Yu-ru case. Following repeated psychological battles and defenses, the destruction and rebuilding of trust, Lin Yu-ru writes her own interpretation of her life. The interviews, media accounts, and the verdict text combine perspectives from various sources and Lin Yu-ru herself on the case, along with Lin Yu-ru's autobiographical account of her life and criminal history. Through this juxtaposition and dialogue of perspectives, perhaps we can attempt to extract a social context that can be understood and valued from the margins of tragic facts.

If you want to die, don't be afraid of having no ghosts to turn to. She confessed to the deaths of her mother, mother-in-law, and husband. The media reports on her are so strange. She denies killing people due to gambling debts, but the life she writes about is a gamble of death and betrayal.

Happiness is a necessary condition in any utopian vision.
This means that in reality, happiness is unattainable...
